Island Paradise
Just returned to Bangkok after a grueling week long shoot in the islands off of Cambodia. Koh Rong is a huge and mostly uninhabited island that has some of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. The water was warm and crystal clear. Just 13 km from Sihanoukville. It’s a only a 30 minute ride on a speed boat. Small fishing villages dot the coastline. There didn’t seem to be any villages in the interior of the island.
This was a corporate shoot for the Royal Group in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Shot on the Red Camera and Canon 5D mark2 and 7D. We had a fun time shooting on a helicopter, yacht and some of the most pristine beaches around.
The picture below is only one of maybe 15 beautiful spots on the island. One beach is 8km long of white sand!
Mysterium X sensor Coming Soon
Deep, booming movie trailer voice. “In a world gone Mad, only one sensor can save us all…Coming Soon”. I’m anticipating the arrival of my Red camera upgraded to the new MX sensor. From every sample that I’ve seen, it’s a wonderful improvement over the original Msyterium sensor from Red Digital Cinema.
The new MX sensor is reported to have at least 3-4 stops more of DR and be able to shoot with at least ISO 1600 if not even ISO 2000. Subject to taste obviously. I caution everyone that this doesn’t mean you don’t need lights. Lights are still your friend. But you may not need as big a lighting package if you’re on a tight budget. Docos will benefit from the faster sensor.
Whatever you’ve heard, read, been told, or seen, has changed about the Red Camera with the new MX sensor. If you’d like to see with your own eyes please let us know.

Red Rock Micro M2 Encore Flip X in Bangkok Thailand
Our newest arrival is the Red Rock Micro M2 Encore Flip in Bangkok Thailand. The those of you looking for that shallow depth of field can pair this adapter with our Sony EX3 to get that Cinema look. The new Encore has improved edge to edge sharpness with only 1/2 stop loss. The Red Rock Micro Encore is built with Rugged aluminum enclosure and sealed optics to prevent dust.
The 35mm adapter market is crowded with many manufacturers. Letus, SGblade, P&S technics. We compared them all and found that the for the price point, the Encore M2 was the best. So if you’re in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai or anywhere else Asia for that matter, we have the gear to suit your needs.

In Living Color
I visited Technicolor in Bangkok today. Met with some wonderful people
(thanks Zoe and Steve) and had a tour of their impressive facilities.
The main reason for the visit was to meet staff and see their workflow
for the Red Camera. I think if you’re in Bangkok, Technicolor is the
de facto place to do your dailies, grading and output. I look forward to
working with them on future projects. We even got some swags
including this cool flash drive! Thanks again to Technicolor and their workflow for the Red Camera.

Filming with the Red Camera on the bangkok sois waiting for the afternoon showers. The infamous tuk tuk that everyone seemingly has to take a picture.
This was for a Kuwait TVC shot on the Red Digital Camera.
Albino Python vs Red Camera
A rare white albino python who didn’t like the heat much. He was always trying to get away. As you can see, I tried
to stay in the background. We could have filmed the snake all day because he was such a beautiful animal. But, alas he
didn’t like being in the sun like most Thais so we gave him a break. 
The Red Camera held up in the even the harshest environment. It was over 40C most of the time and the Red Digital Camera didn’t skip a beat. Mr. Jamal had mentioned in Kuwait, that people in Kuwait were selling their camera because they couldn’t operate in 52C weather. I mention to him that people didn’t operate in 50C weather. We had a good laugh. But good practice is to shade your Red Camera with a umbrella and carry some ice packs just in case. If you running MOS then you should also keep you Red Camera fans turned to HOT. They’ll drain your battery quicker, but they’ll keep you Red Camera cooler.

Trekking through the jungle in 90% humidity and around 40C. Sweated my *ss off.
Where’s my AC when I need him! The Red Camera can be heavy under these condition. Heck, the Canon 7D with a 24-70L can be heavy under these condition.

A client asked us to film a commercial with Dancers, Snakes and Elephants. The spot was filmed with a Red Camera and Zeiss superspeed Lens. The baby Elephant was unbelievable. He/She did everything asked of it. 
Smart and gentle. I have to figure out a way to film more elephants with the Red Camera! Bangkok is amazing place to shoot. It would have cost a lot more money to have done this in LA on Film. This was only setup a day in advance. They walked the baby elephant into the studio and we were ready to shoot. The baby elephant would walk up to the camera department and try to see what this strange Red camera was. Amazing Thailand! I told myself I would never quote that.
